Why SSL website security has become so important in 2017

If you haven’t already heard the hype. Google giants have raised the bar once again. As of January 2017 Google chrome will begin displaying websites as secure or not secure and the only way to ensure your site is listed as a secure website is to have a SSL certificate installed on your website.

So whats an SSL?

SSL itself stands for Secure Socket Layer now unless you have studied website and server stuff I dont expect that to mean anything to you. All you need to know is it is a secure way of sending and recieving sensitive information over a website such as shopping transacations and sharing of personal information.

So what does it do?

Basically it ensures that any sensitive information sent from a website visitor and your website is done in such a way where it can not be intercepted by a third party.

More importantly though in 2017 it will allow you to distinctively display to people viewing via Google that your site is in fact safe.

So how do you get one?

SSL certificates can be bought from a 3rd party and then installed by your web host, however in most cases it’s better to purchase and have your SSL installed by your web host, often they are already setup to offer you SSLs with the least amount of headaches at the best price possible.

As a Web 2 Mobile hosting customer we believe this was a bit of an abrupt move from Google and have since secured a special deal for free SSL Certificates across all of our hosting accounts. Unfortunately however it’s not as simple as flicking a switch and there is some work required so we have a special offer running during January and Feburary to install and configure an SSL for you at a one off cost of $60 + GST (Normally $90 + GST)
